After I get my Bachelor’s in Accounting, what are my next steps toward becoming a CPA?

To sit for the CPA exam in Oregon, you must have acquired 225 total credit hours. After completing the 180-credit accounting degree program at EOU, you will need 45 more credit hours. You can choose to register for 45 more undergraduate credit hours, complete the Post-Baccalaureate Accounting certificate (48 credit hours) or enroll in the MBA program (45 credit hours).

Am I able to defer payment if being reimbursed through my employer?

Generally, payments for the current term must be made in full, within the first fourteen calendar days of the current term, unless other payment arrangements have been made with the student accounts office or the student has completed the Revolving Charge Agreement. Am I allowed to take a hybrid of campus and online classes?

Are online MBA’s respected?

Yes, online education is well respected throughout a variety of fields and industries and there is no difference between the online MBA and on campus. On top of that, the Master of Business Administration program at EOU is accredited by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE). This affiliation represents EOU’s commitment to a quality business education and consistent, continuing evaluation.

Are specializations/concentrations/tracks available for the online B.S./B.A. in Fire Services Administration?

We offer an optional, 24-credit Wildland track for wildland firefighters seeking to meet Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) GS-401 Fire Management Specialist position supplemental standards. You can receive credit toward degree completion if you already hold these certifications.

Are textbooks included in total tuition?

Are there any restrictions to the two minors I can choose with the Bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies?

There are only a few restrictions. The two minors chosen must be from separate fields. For example, two minors from Health and Human Performance may not be used to form an interdisciplinary studies major. The minor may also not be selected from the associate’s programs or certificate programs.

As an online student, what resources will help me the most?

Your enrollment counselor is available for questions about applying to EOU Online and registering for your courses. Talk with your academic advisor to stay on track with your degree progress. A transcript team will ensure that you get the most credit possible for past college credit. Also, do not forget that you have access to EOU campus resources such as student services, admissions, disability services, financial aid and student advocacy.

Before committing to an application, where can I find out how much my tuition would cost?

Beyond my government education benefits, are there other ways to save on the cost of tuition?

But classes start before that, can I be certified without a COE?

Yes, if you provide documentation that you are eligible for the benefit, and that you have applied. However, only the Department of Veteran Affairs can determine eligibility for VA benefits. We are only estimating what they will pay. You will be responsible for any amount of your debt VA has determined they will not pay for. If you are unsure, wait until your COE is mailed to you.

Can I be an economist with a bachelor’s degree?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, an advanced degree is usually required to be an economist. However, some organizations, plus the federal government, offer entry-level positions for those with a bachelor’s degree.

Can I complete a bachelor’s degree in information technology management fully online?

Yes, the bachelor’s degree in information technology management can be completed 100 percent online, because there are no on-campus requirements.

Can I complete an internship as a Health and Human Performance online student?

Yes, we will help you find and complete an internship that is local to you. Your capstone experience will work the same way.

Can I complete the Bachelor’s in Anthropology and Sociology fully online?

Yes, this degree can be completed 100 percent online because there are no on-campus requirements.

Yes, you can complete this program entirely online because there are no on-campus requirements. However, be aware that upper-division courses in the FSA program are occasionally offered as on-site weekend hybrid courses in Eastern Oregon, Southern Oregon and the Portland, Oregon region.

Can I continue my program if deployed?

So long as you have an internet connection and can commit to the time it takes to complete coursework, you can continue in the program. Some courses have fieldwork experiences that need to be completed. If you think you may be deployed at the time you’ll need to complete those, speak with an enrollment counselor directly at 855-805-5399.

Can I defer my application fee?

Potentially, if you are applying to one of our undergraduate programs. If you have limited financial resources, and meet any of six deferral requirements, you may be eligible for a deferral. If you qualify for the fee deferral, please select YES on the application fee deferral question within the undergraduate application.

Can I move from one concentration to another after I enroll in the ESOL concentration?

You can work with your academic advisor to change your concentration after choosing the ESOL concentration. However, you will take distinct ESOL classes online after beginning this concentration, so your program duration may be extended if you switch to another concentration. Do I need all aspects of my application completed before applying?

While you do not need to have all documents ready when you start your application, your application file (GPA/transcripts, letters of recommendation, goal statements, etc.) must be complete when you submit your application to the program. Do I need to pay taxes on my GI Bill® benefits?

No. You will not receive a W-2 from the VA and benefits paid under any law administered by VA should not be reported as income to the IRS.

Do I qualify for an exemption to the EOU English Proficiency Policy?

Do online early childhood education degrees require in-person student teaching?

How do online classes compare to in-person classes?

The biggest difference is that sometimes you will complete work in an asynchronous environment (classes and events happen on a delay) and sometimes you will work in a synchronous environment (classes and events happen immediately). In the asynchronous environment, instead of showing up to a classroom at a designated time and day, you will frequently check Canvas or other online platforms for materials shared by your professor. You can ask questions via Canvas or email; and similarly, you will submit work online and await grading online instead of receiving graded work in the classroom.

In a synchronous environment, you will have a scheduled, digital class meeting with live or immediate interactions. Be sure to take note of the type of online environment your individual professors will use, and adhere to all assignment deadlines.

The number of transfer credits depends on the program you’re pursuing.

How much time will I have to devote to the program on a weekly basis?

The expected hours will vary per program. In undergraduate courses, you can expect to work at least 8–10 hours per week, per class. For a graduate-level program, you may have 12–15 hours per week of classwork, per course. Contact us to learn more here.

How old can transfer credits be?

Transfer credit policies vary by program. Applicants can get a free transfer credit review to find out how many of their previous credits will count toward their degree.

How quickly will my file be reviewed?

Once your application file is complete, it typically takes 2–4 weeks to review and provide an answer as to whether you’ve been accepted to the program. Please visit our admission requirements page for full details of what’s needed.

How will other financial aid affect my GI Bill®?

It depends on the type of benefit. We are required to report the net tuition cost to the VA after applying grants, scholarships, discounts, etc. that apply to tuition. The balance is what VA will pay under chapter 33.

I am an international student; Do I qualify for an exemption to the EOU English Proficiency Policy?

You may qualify if you are a citizen of, or have a bachelor’s degree from one of many countries. See the EOU English Proficiency Policy for more information.

I have been accepted. Now what?

Congratulations! Your next step is to consult the Enrollment Checklist for new students. This checklist includes information about applying for financial aid, as well as creating your EOU email address.

If I am not accepted, what are my options?

It’s best to talk to your enrollment counselor directly about this, as what you can do depends upon why you were not accepted into the program. Generally speaking, if your GPA wasn’t high enough, you can take community college courses to improve it. You may also simply need more work experience.

If I use the Montgomery GI Bill® first, then I can also use the Post 9/11 GI Bill®, right?

It is possible. If you’re authorized to use more than one GI Bill® benefit you’re allowed to use up to 48 months of benefits, but one at a time. If you have used up your entire chapter 30 and have never used a different chapter (31, 32, 34, 35, 1606 or 1607) you could be eligible for an additional 12 months if you have not reached your delimiting date.

Is a communications degree worth it?

After securing your online bachelor’s in communication studies from EOU, you can work in many fields depending on your personal interest. EOU alumni are currently working in website design, advertising, management, social media, journalism, human resources and more.

Is computer science a good major?

After securing your online bachelor’s in computer science, you can work in many positions. You can work in computer networking, programming, support or systems. Other job titles might include information security, network administration or software development.

Is psychology a good major?

Yes, there is always a need for educated professionals in numerous different fields. After securing your online bachelor’s in psychology from EOU, you can work in in human and social services, schools or rehabilitation centers. This program is also great preparation for graduate study in psychology, after which you can work as a psychologist, forensic psychologist, clinical therapist, physician’s assistant and more.

Is the Fire Services program entirely online?

Yes, you can complete this program entirely online. However, some upper-division courses in the FSA program are occasionally offered as on-site weekend hybrid courses in Eastern Oregon, Southern Oregon and the Portland, Oregon region.

Is the Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling accredited by CACREP, the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs?

While Eastern Oregon University’s online Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is designed for you to meet the educational and clinical experience requirements for counseling licensure in Oregon and most states, this program is not currently accredited by CACREP. Our program will apply for CACREP accreditation as soon as it is eligible, which is upon graduation of the first cohort, estimated for August 2025.

No. The online B.S./B.A. in Marketing degree can be completed entirely online.

Is the online degree the same caliber as the on-campus degree?

Yes! EOU is regionally accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and its predecessor agencies and holds necessary programmatic accreditations as well. You’ll be held to the same high standards as our students on campus. Learn more about our accreditations here.

Is the online M.P.A. available in a blended/hybrid format (campus & online)?

The program is only available online. This allows you to study in the times and locations that are best for you throughout your entire program without a requirement of ever coming to campus. There are optional on-campus learning opportunities through elective courses offered in coordination with EOU’s Regional Outreach and Innovation Centers in Oregon.

Is the online MSW accredited?

The online MSW is currently in pre-candidacy for accreditation by the Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) Board of Accreditation (BOA).

While this program is designed for you to meet the educational and experience requirements for the first level of MSW licensure in Oregon and most states, EOU’s MSW program is not currently accredited by CSWE’s Board of Accreditation (BOA).

The program aims to submit its Candidacy Eligibility Application and Benchmark I documents for CSWE staff approval by March of 2025. Once approved by CSWE staff, the program will be granted pre-candidacy status. Pre-candidacy for a baccalaureate or master’s social work program by the CSWE BOA indicates that it submitted an application to be reviewed for candidacy and received approval of its Benchmark 1 from CSWE accreditation staff to move forward for a candidacy review within 1-year. A program that has attained pre-candidacy status has not yet been reviewed by the BOA nor verified to be compliant with the EPAS.

Students that are admitted to pre-candidate programs in the fall (or later) of the academic year in which the program is granted candidacy status will be retroactively recognized as graduates from a CSWE-BOA accredited program as long as the program attains initial accreditation. EOU’s MSW program should receive Candidacy status in June of 2026, however it is not guaranteed. Candidacy is typically a 3-year process and attaining pre-candidacy does not guarantee that a program will eventually attain candidacy and initial accreditation.

EOU’s Master of Social Work degree does not meet the educational requirements for licensure in Florida, New Hampshire, and New York.

For the 2025-2026 academic year, EOU’s MSW program will not be admitting students from the following states that require full accreditation to be able to take the first level licensure exam: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. The program will update the states from which we will accept student admissions as the program progresses through accreditation.

Is there a limit to how many of my previous courses can transfer for credit?

This depends on your individual program. Many online programs have a limit of 30 transfer credits, although some programs allow fewer transfer credits. Is there a minor in Anthropology and Sociology?

Yes. The minor requires 30 credit hours in the degree program, with 10 credit hours from each concentration. You must complete 20 upper-division credit hours with a minimum of 10 credit hours from EOU.

Is there a part-time option for the Master of Public Administration program?

What are my career options after completing the Health and Human Performance degree?

The bachelor’s in health & human performance will open doors to many careers. With the degree, you can work in public health education, strength and conditioning coaching, personal training or corporate wellness. If you choose to pursue other certifications and/or graduate education, you could work as a nurse, dentist, chiropractor, physical therapist, occupational therapist, dietician or K–12 educator.

What are the accounting degree requirements?

There is a requirement of 180 credit hours for students coming in without an undergraduate degree.

When will I be notified of acceptance?

Once your application file is complete, it typically takes 2–4 weeks to review and provide an answer as to whether you’ve been accepted to the program.

Although each year brings different authors to the MFA and its residencies, in the past we have worked with the late Ursula K. LeGuin, Luís Urrea, David James Duncan, William Kittredge and Cheryl Strayed to name a few.

Which literary genres will I study in the MFA in Creative Writing program?

We crafted our MFA in Creative Writing for writers seeking talents in myriad writing forms, including poetry, fiction and both short and long-form nonfiction. Which types of transfer credit does EOU accept?

You can transfer education from U.S. military experience, college-level exams, AAOT/ASOT (Associate of Arts/Science Oregon Transfer Degrees) and the Oregon transfer module. You could also get credit for prior work/life experience through APEL: Assessment of Experiential Learning.

Who should get a Bachelor’s in Emergency Medical Services Administration?

EOU’s online degree in EMSA is perfect for EMTs or medics who want to move up in rank. However, if you are interested in nursing, an EMS sales representative, creating essential nursing resources or other management roles, our degree program is a great fit.

Who should get a Bachelor’s in Fire Service Administration?

EOU’s online degree in FSA is perfect for fire officers who want to advance in rank, particularly senior fire officers. Most students in our program are transfer students.

Why should I take online classes?

Besides the convenience of studying from a time and place that work best for you, employers value skills that you develop from an online education: the initiative to complete tasks, the ability to work independently, digital composing skills, time management skills and organizational skills.

Will employers know that my diploma was earned online?

They will not. There’s no difference in the diplomas presented to graduates of the online and on-campus programs.

Will EOU accept credit from Advanced Placement exams?

Yes, credit for AP exams varies by program. Scores below 3 will not be accepted. See the AP credit transfer table here.

Will I get access to library resources?

Yes. Once you are accepted and create your EOU account, you can log in to Pierce Library online resources including databases, journals, articles, reference materials, special collections and more, plus chat with library staff members if you need assistance. Will I have technical support?

Yes. Help desk hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (PST) Monday through Friday. You can also contact the help desk at helpdesk@eou.edu.

Will I have the opportunity for on-the-job experience during the Communication and Media Studies degree?

Yes. Seniors in the communication and media studies program can register for an internship course-even if you are working online. A faculty member will guide and assess the internship in preparation for the senior capstone course.

Will I need state licensure to secure a job after I graduate?

Your need for licensure will depend on the career path you choose. Certification and licensure can sometimes lead to advancement opportunities and increased salary potential.

Will I still need to buy books?

Yes, you will still need to purchase the required course materials. However, it is a good practice to check with your professors to ensure materials are required before you buy them. Many books are available online.

Will my diploma say online on it?

It will not. The diploma is the same for all graduates, whether their program was completed online or at our campus location.

Will the Bachelor’s in Accounting prepare me to become licensed in my state?

Yes. The program prepares you to sit for licensure as a certified managerial accountant. A certified managerial accountant is a globally recognized certification.

Will the Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education prepare me to become licensed in my state?

No, this program does not prepare students to be licensed — in order to become licensed, students must move on to the Master’s of Arts in Teaching.

Will the bachelor’s of cybersecurity prepare me for certifications?

Our bachelor’s in cybersecurity program meets the educational requirements for you to sit for the CISSP certification exam and also counts as one year of full-time employment experience (out of the five years required to sit for the exam). Will the Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program prepare me to become licensed in my state?

While Eastern Oregon University’s online Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is designed for you to meet the educational and clinical experience requirements for counseling licensure in Oregon and most states, this program is not currently accredited by CACREP. Our program will apply for CACREP accreditation as soon as it is eligible, which is upon graduation of the first cohort, estimated for August 2025.

Will the Master of Science in Education prepare me to become licensed in my state?

The MS program is not a licensure program. It will not result in a teaching license in any state.

Will the online MSW prepare me to become licensed in my state?

The online MSW program is designed for you to meet the educational and experience requirements for the first level of MSW licensure in Oregon and most states. Requirements for licensure exams can vary, so please investigate licensure requirements in your state for more details.

EOU’s Master of Social Work degree does not meet the educational requirements for licensure in Florida, New Hampshire, and New York.

For the 2025-2026 academic year, EOU’s MSW Program will not be admitting students from the following states that require full accreditation to be able to take the first level licensure exam: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Will the Post-Baccalaureate Accounting Certificate prepare me to become licensed in my state?

The online program will prepare students to qualify for and take the state CPA exam.
