Admission Requirements

Online Application Form:Apply Now (for Fall 2024 quarter)
Degree and Minimum GPA:
  • Submit official transcripts from the regionally accredited institution stating the conferral of a bachelor’s degree or higher with an accreditor that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education with a minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred
  • May apply with a lower GPA for consideration
Transcripts:Official transcripts from all prior universities
Additional Requirements:
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Two completed essays using program prompts

Essay 1: Becoming a Counselor (1-2 pages)
– Where does your desire to become a counselor come from? What skills do you already have that will assist you in being successful in an online education program?
– What would you like to do with your graduate degree in counseling? Feel free to include the population and setting you believe you would like to work with.
– How will attending the CMHC program at Eastern Oregon University assist you with meeting your goals? Please speak to the university and program values and mission.
 
Essay 2: Self as Counselor (1-2 pages)
– Openness to feedback from instructors is an essential component of growth during a graduate counseling program. Please describe a time when you received feedback that was difficult for you to hear. What were your initial reactions and how were you able to work through those initial reactions in order to act upon the feedback given?
– Please describe something you have recently done to further your OR others’ understanding of privilege and systemic oppression in our society. This could be a conversation, book, activism/advocacy, or something else. In what ways have you applied your learning? 
– Is there anything else you would like us to know about you in consideration of your application?

Transfer Credit

You can transfer up to 9 semester hours or 13.5 quarter credit hours of graduate credit into the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at EOU. To learn more, contact an enrollment counselor at 855-805-5399.

Full time enrollment is defined as 12 credit hours per term for undergraduates, and 9 or more credit hours per term for graduate students.

Students who plan to attend half time should contact the financial aid office before the beginning of their term to have their aid revised.
