This MS in Education online program is designed to prepare new CTE teachers, while also helping current CTE teachers fulfill their individualized Professional Development Plan requirements. Concentration courses span diverse topics, including CTE literacy, classroom management, culturally responsive pedagogy and practices, CTE-relevant applied mathematics and curricular theory, planning and assessment. You will also learn about the professional roles and responsibilities of educators, as well as state and federal funding and programs that support CTE in Oregon.
Required Courses
This course is designed to support teachers who are pursuing Career and Technical Education (CTE) licensure in Oregon and are either new to the teaching profession or existing teachers adding an endorsement to teach in a career and technical education program of study. Through course readings, videos and reflective projects, students will receive a practical introduction to the professional roles and responsibilities of educators as well as an overview of the state and federal funding and program characteristics that support CTE in Oregon.
This course is designed to focus on curricular theory and planning through units and daily lessons that are tied to current industry standards in your area of Career and Technical Education (CTE). This course will focus on identification of instructional goals, activities to achieve goals through student learning, and appropriate measurement and how to determine if a student has met instructional goals and industry skills through assessment. Instructional models most relevant to CTE are combined with standards based curricular design using content specific CTE standards.
This course is designed to support Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers in developing a practical and effective approach to classroom management. Through course readings, videos and reflective projects, participants will establish a positive classroom setting that maximizes time on learning and is inclusive to school and classroom culture.
This course explores principles of human development in adolescence including physical, intellectual, personality, social development, and motivation theory in relationship to classroom learning in Career and Technical Education (CTE). Course includes explanations of how learners acquire understanding and how teachers may enhance the process.
This course is designed for Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers to increase their knowledge and competence in the area of Culturally Responsive Pedagogy and Practices. This course will focus on developing practices in classrooms that will encourage success for all students, encouraging teachers to take into account the cultural and linguistic backgrounds of their students and fostering inclusive and equitable learning environments.
This course is designed for Career and Technical Education (CTE) Educators to increase their knowledge of literacy and its place in the classroom. This content area literacy course will focus on concepts and strategies for reading and writing across the curriculum as well as incorporating speaking, listening, and viewing. It will include a particular emphasis on CTE and literacy integration.
This course focuses on the applied mathematics used in career and technical education (CTE) contexts. Students will put theory into practice by investigating the mathematics used in various CTE settings, along with considering best practices in mathematics instruction in CTE settings based on mathematics education research.
